create a scan list, check the 'Talkgroups' button. If you’re importing a complete trunked system,
which has both Frequencies and Talkgroups, the 'All' button should be checked.
7. Now examine the row that lists the column names (See the highlighted area on the screen shot
above). You must 'teach' ScanControl where each piece of data is to be loaded. This is referred
to as 'mapping'. To do this, click the desired column name, and go to the '2. Column Map'
window. Select the appropriate title from the pull down list. This will cause the column title on
the form to change and so this column has now been “mapped”. You can do this as many times
as necessary in order to “map” the columns containing the data you wish to import. In the
example above column 3 has been mapped to contain frequencies, column 4 is mapped to
contain frequency tags and column 5 has been mapped to contain PL tone data. The mapping
information, or profile, can now be saved on disk for future use. Clicking the Save Map button
in the Column Map section brings up the save file window where you can name the Mapping
Profile and save it. Clicking on the Load Map button allows you to load an existing Map Profile
from disk.
8. In the example CSV file there is no useful information in the columns in rows 1 through 3, so
ScanControl brought these rows into the import screen, however, we don't want these rows to
become part of the data file. So go down to the '3. Range to Import' window and select the
row(s) you want to map. This tells SC which rows in the file contain the data you want to import
IN THE MAPPED COLUMNS
.
9. Now you must pay attention to the destination of the data. In the '4. Destination Bank' area, you
must select which bank is to receive the data and on which channel to start. If you have more
rows than the radio can handle in one bank, check the 'channel spillover' box, and the next
adjacent bank will take the overflow. The 'Def Tag' box is used if you have no alpha tags
mapped. There's a similar set of boxes in the 'Talkgroups' window; note that 'SLoc' is for the
'Scan List Location'.
10. When you press 'Import', you will get a series of warnings; one for overlaying data in a bank, the
other states that the import does not load bank names, system types and other information. When
the import is complete you will be asked if you want to import any more data from the file you
have open. Answering ‘Yes’ will bring you back to the Import CSV File Data screen where you
can create a new map by clicking the ‘Reset’ button or modify the existing map. You can map
and re-map the loaded file as many times as you wish in order to import all the required data.
11. You're not quite done; you must now go to the Bank Edit screen for the bank that has the
imported data and correct or add as necessary. For example, the frequencies and talkgroups you
may import could be for a Type 2 Motorola system, so you must change the 'Type' and check the
'Trunk’ box on each channel on the Bank Edit screen.
12. The CSV Import feature has a 2000 row (record) limit, and ScanControl will warn you when this
limit is reached.
