Making a selcall
Pick up the handset. Press the PTT or Scan to cancel scanning.
Press Mute key to enable the speaker.
Either use the Scroll key to choose a calling channel, or press the Find
key, type in the channel number and press Tick .
Select required mode (USB or LSB) by pressing 3.
Ensure the channel is not in use before commencing the call.
Press Call and type in the selcall ID of the remote station. Confirm with
Call
. Your radio will hear the radio making the call. If the call is
successful, you will hear the remote radio answer with 6 short beeps.
Wait for the radio operator to answer. Press the PTT and talk into the
microphone
.
If the call was unsuccessful, repeat from step 3, selecting a different calling
channel.
Either use the Scroll key to change to a working channel, or press the
Find key, type in the channel number and press Tick .
When the conversation is finished, press Scan .
Channel Test Call (Selective Beacon Call)
Selective channel test calls assists determining the best channel to use before calling a
station to talk or send information.
When sending a selective channel test call, the
receiving station acknowledges the call by
sending a beacon revertive signal consisting
of 4 long beeps. Compare the quality of the
revertive signal to decide the channel having
the strongest signal suitable for
communication.

Selective channel test calls allows checking
channel conditions without disturbing stations
on the network by frequent test calls. A
transceiver receiving a selective channel test
call does not record the call or alert the
operator.
