Tac/Com II
TM
airborne control heads
provide flexible multi-radio operation
capabilities in a compact user-friendly
design. The controls are capable of
simultaneous operation of up to four
separate FM transceivers including the
Motorola SPECTRA
TM
and ASTRO
TM
DIGITAL SPECTRA series radios.
These series of radios are used in
ground support vehicles and do not
have a control that conforms to typical
aircraft configurations. Tac/Com II
TM
control heads provide an easy solution
to add these radios into your
communications suite.
SPECTRA
TM
Radios
The SPECTRA
TM
series radios are
available in conventional FM
communications or in a Trunking
version. There are two basic hardware
configurations, a panel/dash mount
and a remote mount version. The
panel/dash mount version is preferred
over the remote mount for interfacing to
the Tac/Com II
TM
control.
(NB: See “Labels” section for important
information about compatibility of these
radios.)
The standard panel/dash mount
SPECTRA
TM
radios have the R/T and
control head as one unit. The model
numbers typically end with: ...B5AK,
...C5AK, ...E5AK, ...B7AK, ...C7AK,
...E7AK. In order to be utilized with the
Tac/Com II
TM
control, this series needs
to be modified with the “Remote Mount
Kit”. Contact Motorola for a kit
specifically for this purpose. Once the
control head portion has been
removed, it is no longer required.
The remote mount version is called the
SPECTRA
TM
9000 series.These radios
have the control head and R/T as
separate units. The model numbers
typically end with: ...B9AK, ...C9AK.
ASTRO
TM
Radios
The ASTRO
TM
series are also available
for conventional FM communications
or Trunking configurations and are
APCO 25 compliant. They are
available in remote mount versions or a
panel/dash mount version which must
be converted into a remote version.
However, unlike the SPECTRA
TM
series, the ASTRO
TM
series does not
have any significant operational
differences between types. Therefore,
there is no preference to either.
